Few dishes deliver the same sense of comfort as a pot pie. With buttery crusts and rich fillings, they bring warmth and heartiness to the table in every bite. Metro Detroit is home to several spots with some outstanding pot pies that will leave you coming back for more all season long.

Great Lakes Pot Pies

809 West 14 Mile Road, Clawson

At Great Lakes Pot Pies, everything starts with a mission to make “gourmet comfort food easy and accessible for everyone,” shares founder Jannie Teitelbaum. “We’re proud to represent Metro Detroit in every bite.” The shop began in her home kitchen and has since grown into a locally loved, women-owned business offering a wide range of pies, with both sweet and savory options. Their signature chicken pot pie comes tucked into a thyme-flavored crust, but the menu extends to beef stew, pasty, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free pot pies. Hand pies range from bacon quiche to chocolate chip cookie varieties, and seasonal specials give customers even more ways to enjoy this comforting classic.

Blazer at Grandma's

Wherever the road takes you, go in style. The Chevy Blazer offers the perfect blend of sophistication and versatility for your next journey.

Pie Collective by Achatz offers staples and some unexpected twists on the classic pot pie. “As a born-and-raised Michigander, I know it gets cold; that’s why we make pies that warm your bones,” shares Zack Achatz. “We use real, quality ingredients in every pot pie, so folks get a meal that’s tasty and filling without all the work.” Chicken and beef pies remain favorites, but options filled with spinach and feta, lobster and potatoes, and a Reuben-inspired corned beef and sauerkraut pie show the kitchen’s creative side for savory options. When you’re finished, make sure to check out the dessert selection, with pies ranging from Michigan 4-Berry to Banana Split.

Zingerman’s Cornman Farms

8540 Island Lake Road, Dexter

At Zingerman’s Cornman Farms, pot pies are a way to connect Michigan diners with British culinary tradition. “My hope is that this dish transports our guests to a different place and time,” shares Chef Kieron Hales, who grew up in London and remembers relying on pie and mash shops for affordable, filling meals. The farm now offers both frozen pies year-round and a Pie & Mash Pop-Up each March, where guests enjoy savory pies served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and sauce. It’s a mix of nostalgia and craftsmanship, rooted in heritage and shared with the local community, all found within this event venue’s farmhouse.

Redcoat Tavern

6745 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

31542 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak

Known for its iconic burgers, Redcoat Tavern also brings its classic touch to pot pie. The Amish Chicken Pot Pie is a go-to entree that comes topped with a delicate French puff pastry, creating a golden, flaky top over its savory filling. It’s a simple yet indulgent option that you can’t go wrong with. Paired with hand-battered mushrooms, the Cheese & Ale Spread, or completed with a homemade dessert like Raspberry-Pecan Bread Pudding, Red Coat takes comfort food to the next level.

Zingerman’s Delicatessen

422 Detroit Street, Ann Arbor

At Zingerman’s Delicatessen, pot pies are crafted with precision and care. The deli offers a variety of options, from vegetarian mushroom pies made with locally grown hen of the woods, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms, to rich meat pies like Cheshire Pork with Michigan hogs and apples, or the Dingle Lamb pasty-style pie with rutabaga. Their Classic Chicken Pot Pie, loaded with vegetables and Calder Dairy heavy cream, is a year-round favorite, while limited seasonal varieties draw big demand in the winter. As Deli Chef and Managing Partner Rodger Bowser explains, the tradition began as a way to keep staff employed during the slower months, and it has since grown into a signature offering that sees thousands of pies made every year. You can find the mushroom and chicken varieties housed in the freezer year-round, or wait until December for the full variety to return to the menu.
